Working Together for an Age- and Dementia-Friendly Vernon

Building a more inclusive community takes collaboration—and VSAN is proud to be part of that work.

The City of Vernon’s Age- and Dementia-Friendly Community Plan brings together partners across the community to improve quality of life for older adults and people living with dementia. VSAN played an active role in this process, working alongside organizations like NexusBC and Interior Health to help shape the plan and its priorities.

This plan focuses on creating a community where people can continue to live safely, stay healthy, and remain connected as they age. It outlines practical actions—from improving accessibility in public spaces to strengthening community services and making information easier to access—that will help make Vernon more inclusive for everyone.

VSAN’s role as a connector and advocate helps ensure that the voices of seniors and service providers are part of these conversations. The network’s ongoing work—bringing people together, sharing information, and identifying community needs—directly supports the goals of the plan.

This collaboration doesn’t stop with the plan itself. VSAN will continue working with partners to support implementation, helping turn ideas into action and strengthening a more age- and dementia-friendly Vernon for everyone.
