The Best View is Still Ahead

If you've recently discovered the Vernon Seniors Action Network (VSAN), welcome.

At VSAN, we believe the best view is still ahead. Over the past several months, we've been working to strengthen our foundation and prepare for the next stage of our journey. While much of that effort has happened behind the scenes, we're excited to start sharing what we've built and where we're headed together.

One of our biggest milestones has been the launch of our new website, which gives VSAN a central place to share information, resources, events, advocacy efforts, and opportunities for people to get involved. It has also given us a way to begin reconnecting with members and introducing VSAN to new people throughout Vernon and the North Okanagan.

But a website is really just a tool.

What matters most is the community behind it.

Listening First

Earlier this spring, VSAN members participated in a brainstorming session to identify the issues affecting seniors in our community. Read what we heard from seniors and service providers.

The conversation was wide-ranging, but some common themes emerged again and again:

  • Finding the right services and supports can be confusing.

  • Social isolation remains a significant concern.

  • Many seniors want to age safely in their own homes but need additional support to do so.

  • Transportation and accessibility continue to create barriers for many people.

None of these issues exist in isolation. They overlap and affect nearly every aspect of a person's ability to live well and stay connected.

The good news is that we have a growing network of organizations, community leaders, volunteers, and seniors themselves who care deeply about finding solutions.

Growing a Stronger Network

VSAN was created on the belief that communities are stronger when people work together.

Over the past few months we've been reaching out to current members, renewing relationships with partner organizations, connecting with local government staff, and welcoming new voices to the table.

The more perspectives we bring together, the better positioned we are to identify gaps, advocate for change, and support meaningful action.

Just Getting Started

We're still in the early stages of implementing our Strategic Plan, but the momentum is encouraging.

In the months ahead, we'll continue to:

  • Share community news and updates.

  • Highlight local resources and services for seniors.

  • Explore emerging issues affecting older adults.

  • Support collaboration between organizations

  • Promote opportunities for people to participate and make a difference.

Most importantly, we'll continue listening.

Because better decisions get made when seniors' voices are part of the conversation.
